Dr. Mohan Koppikar is an esteemed surgeon specializing in GI (Gastrointestinal) and Minimal Access Surgery. He completed his medical education at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where he obtained his graduate and postgraduate degrees in medicine. After his postgraduate training, he served as a Lecturer and Reader for four years at the same institution. He also received training in GI Oncology Surgery at the prestigious TATA Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.
In his pursuit of further expertise, Dr. Koppikar obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) from Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He then went on to work in England under renowned GI and Laparoscopic surgeons until 1994. During his time in the UK, he presented papers on Laparoscopic Exploration of the Common Bile Duct, showcasing his involvement in the field of laparoscopic surgery.
Returning to India in 1994, Dr. Mohan Koppikar established his private practice with a focus on GI and Minimal Access Surgery. Over the years, he has performed nearly 4000 Minimal Access Procedures, encompassing both basic and advanced techniques. Dr. Koppikar has been actively involved in teaching and training in the field of Minimal Access Surgery. He was associated with Somaiya Medical College, where he taught Minimal Access techniques. He has also been associated with the Ethicon Institute of Surgical Education (EISE) and the Center for Minimal Access Surgery for Training (C-MAST).
Dr. Koppikar's expertise in Minimal Access Surgery has led to his significant contributions in the field. In 2003, he played a key role in establishing the Minimal Access Surgery Department at Fortis Hospital Mulund, which has since become a highly successful model in the city of Mumbai. Additionally, he has trained numerous postgraduates in Minimal Access Surgery, furthering the growth and development of this specialized field.
