Dr. Gaurav Gupta is an accomplished Abdominal Organ Transplant and HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) surgeon with training in both India and the United States. He completed his MBBS and MS degrees at Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi. Dr. Gupta pursued specialized transplant surgery training at esteemed institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh, and UCLA.
With his extensive training, Dr. Gupta has become an expert in the field of transplant surgery. He has performed over 300 liver transplants as the primary surgeon and has played a pivotal role in establishing three Liver Transplant Centers in Mumbai and Maharashtra, starting them from scratch. His experience and contributions have made him an integral part of the medical community in the region.
Dr. Gaurav Gupta has achieved remarkable milestones throughout his career. Notably, he successfully performed a liver transplant on a 5.3 kg baby, demonstrating his expertise in complex cases. Under his leadership, the Liver Transplant program at Fortis Hospital, Mulund achieved an impressive 1-year survival rate of 96%. Additionally, Dr. Gupta's team accomplished the first Living Donor Combined Liver and Kidney transplant in Mumbai in 2016, showcasing their dedication to innovation and comprehensive care. He has also successfully performed several ABO-incompatible liver transplants, highlighting his proficiency in challenging cases.
Dr. Gupta has gained valuable international experience through his fellowships and research positions. He completed a Multi-Organ Transplant Surgery Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia. He further honed his skills through an Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery Fellowship at The Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, he pursued a Pediatric Transplant Surgery Fellowship at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and served as a Research Fellow in Transplant Surgery at UCLA.
