Dr. Jumana Y Haji is a highly experienced ECMO Specialist with a career spanning over 20 years. She has developed remarkable expertise in caring for ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) patients, having worked in India and Singapore. Her current focus is on developing and supporting ECMO programs for comprehensive care centers in both rural and urban areas. She also provides advanced critical care support to heart-lung transplant patients.
Dr. Jumana obtained her MBBS degree from K J Somaiya Medical College and Research Centre in Mumbai. She further pursued an MD in Anaesthesia from KEM Hospital, Mumbai. She has a diploma in Organ Donation after Circulatory Death, highlighting her interest in organ transplantation.
Her journey in the field of ECMO began in Singapore, where she received certification from an ELSO (Extracorporeal Life Support Organization) accredited course. She is now a trainer for an ELSO accredited training course in India, further contributing to the advancement of ECMO care in the country. Prior to joining Fortis Hospital, she held positions in esteemed medical centers, including the National University Health Systems (NUHS) in Singapore. Her most recent role was as a Consultant Cardiac Critical Care and ECMO Program Director in the Department of Heart-Lung Transplant and Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery at Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.
Dr. Jumana is dedicated to providing excellent patient care both in the operating room and in the ICU. She focuses on continuous monitoring and assessment of the ECMO circuit, related technology, and patient status to ensure optimal outcomes.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Jumana is actively involved in research and has published extensively in national and international journals. Her contributions to the field have earned her a position as a member of the ELSO Scientific Overview Committee (SOC), representing SWAAC ELSO (South and West Asia-Africa Chapter), a prestigious voluntary post that reflects her expertise and commitment to advancing ECMO care.
